Mushroom Update - How did it go?

Updated: Apr 8, 2022

I made a post about growing mushrooms from a substrate using 3 ingredients. So I'm sharing a short update about how that went.

For starters, the mushrooms smelled amazing. My whole living room kitchen area was scented with a sweet flowery scent.

I learned that it's best to harvest the mushrooms on the day they release their spores. You'll know when the spores have been released because they will leave a faint white powder under the mushrooms and surrounding tops. They can be wiped away really easily.

In order to harvest the mushrooms, you'll need to twist the mushrooms from the substrate and pull. I wrapped them in foil and put them in the fridge for cooking later.

The best thing about the mushrooms is that I got a second harvest 2 weeks later!

I made a new batch of grey oyster mushrooms and they are starting to grow off the substrate. I'll be posting about these ones when they're fully grown.
